Space 550 San Francisco: Parking, Doors, Dress Code and the Rooms

Space 550, 550 Barneveld Ave, San Francisco, CA 94124. The venue sits in the Bayview / Bayshore area of southeast San Francisco. It is home to Dance Fridays, the weekly Friday salsa and bachata night, every Friday of the year.

Many dancers say the venue is reminiscent of the Cafe Cocomo era in San Francisco and the old Copacabana in New York around 2000 — multiple rooms and every salsa and bachata style under one roof.

Driving is the most popular option, because of the free street parking (see below). Enter 550 Barneveld Ave into your maps app.

Rideshare — Uber and Lyft are recommended. They drop you at the door, and they solve the ride home after a late night.

Muni — the nearest Muni line is the T-Third. Check Muni for the current stop and for late-night service, because dancing runs until 1:30 AM.

There is a large amount of free street parking outside the venue. The tip regular dancers swear by: arrive by 8:00 PM for the lessons and you get the closest spots. You also get the Beginning Bachata lesson, which starts at 8:00 PM, so arriving early pays off twice.

Doors open at 7:45 PM. Dance Fridays is 21+ with a valid government ID— bring the physical card. Have your ticket ready on your phone to speed up entry.

Tickets are sold at dancefridays.fun and on Eventbrite. Advance tickets start at $15; the door price is $25.

Space 550 has a coat check, so you do not have to dance holding a jacket. There is a full bar inside. Outside food, drink and water bottles are not allowed — the bar is where to get drinks and water through the night.

The salsa room is the main room. Live DJs play salsa for social dancing, and this is where the live salsa band plays on its monthly night. The Beginning Salsa lesson happens at 8:45 PM. More on the salsa side: salsa club San Francisco.

The bachata room is dedicated to bachata with live DJs. Beginning Bachata starts the night at 8:00 PM. More: SF bachata every Friday.

Open social dancing runs 9:30 PM to 1:30 AM in both rooms. Move between them as often as you like.

Already past the basics? At 9:00 PM there is an Intermediate Bachata lesson in the Back Room. It is a good way to warm up with more challenging material before the social begins at 9:30 PM.

Space 550 has an outdoor patio — a place to cool off between songs, catch up with friends and get some air. San Francisco nights get cold, so bring a layer you can leave at coat check or carry outside.

• Nightclub smart / smart casual — dress to impress.
• No sportswear, no shorts, no hats (Panama-style hats excepted).
• Leather-soled shoes are recommended for turning — but comfort first.

• 7:45 PM — Doors open. ID check, coat check, bar.
• 8:00 PM — Beginning Bachata.
• 8:45 PM — Beginning Salsa.
• 9:00 PM — Intermediate Bachata in the Back Room.
• 9:30 PM – 1:30 AM — Open social dancing in the salsa room and the bachata room.
• 1:45 AM — Venue closes.

Once a month a live salsa band plays at Dance Fridays. Space 550 also hosts the season's special nights. On Friday, October 30, 2026 the venue opens three rooms — salsa, bachata and cumbia — for Dance Fridays Halloween with Julio Bravo live, four dance lessons and a costume contest with awards. On Friday, December 18, 2026 the Holiday Party brings the live salsa band Borinquen.
